I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at 37. I am 76 now.

In between I survived a three-vessel bypass surgery, sepsis that nearly took my kidneys, and decades of confusing, contradictory advice that never quite added up to a sustainable system.

I was also one of the first patients ever enrolled in a clinical trial for what you now know as Ozempic — before most doctors had heard of GLP-1 medications.

Today my morning glucose is consistently under 100. Not because I found a perfect diet or eliminated medication — but because I built a system that works for my real life.

My Story — And Why I Created the Type 2 Pivot Method

I’m Joel Steinberg, a 75-year-old who’s lived with Type 2 diabetes for almost 39 years — and I’m remarkably healthy today.

But it wasn’t always this way.

In the early days, managing diabetes was confusing and lonely. My father had Type 2 and eventually needed dialysis and hospice care. Watching his struggles pushed me to learn everything I could — long before most doctors even talked about A1C, blood sugar patterns, or insulin resistance.

Like many people, I avoided changes for years. I had moments of progress and long stretches where my numbers rose again. I saw firsthand how easy it was to “get back on track,” only to slip when life became stressful.

A major wake-up call came during a trip to visit my son, when I suddenly needed a three-vessel bypass surgery. Later, a severe infection led to sepsis and nearly caused kidney failure. That was the moment I realized:

I didn’t need another quick fix — I needed a sustainable system.

A system that worked even when life got busy.
A system that included modern medications and lifestyle tools.
A system I could follow without perfection or punishment.

Over the last several years, I refined what now becomes The Type 2 Pivot Method — a simple, realistic, lifetime approach that has kept my morning glucose under 100 and allowed me to live a full, healthy life for decades.

Today, I teach the same system to others so they can stop guessing, stop blaming themselves, and finally take control of their health — without extreme diets or feeling overwhelmed.
